Saccharin, Aspartame or Cyclamate

For various reasons there are women who live “on a diet” most of my life that have eliminated sugar from your diet in favor of artificial sweeteners (saccharin, aspartame or cyclamate).

Others however do not use them, but when pregnant and go to regular visits with the obstetrician or midwife that the subject of weight, often giving more importance than it has, and just feeling the need to control a bit what you eat to prevent weight gain more.

In this need appears one of the easiest substitutions to perform: changing the sugar and saccharin. However, being pregnant, what is better?

The answer is simple and does not need too many rodeos: sugar is better because artificial sweeteners cross the placenta during pregnancy can harm the fetus.

Aspartame

Aspartame raised doubts, as there are experts who advise against its use has not been proved safe and experts, also has not been proved unsafe, do not prohibit it entirely, ensuring that, if consumed in moderation, appears to be safe during the pregnancy.
Saccharin

Saccharin, however, generates more controversy, as some animal studies show an increased risk of bladder cancer. As sweeteners cross the placenta entering the bloodstream of the fetus and research with monkeys indicate that saccharin takes longer to get out of the baby that the mother’s body, suspect that might accumulate in the baby’s bladder, thus increasing Therefore the risk of bladder cancer.

It must be said, yet it produced tumors in rats have not been given in studies with other animals and less on human beings. In addition, the dose given to rats equivalent to human consumption of 750 cans of soft drinks per day or 10,000 tablets of saccharin a day for a lifetime.

In other words, the more likely it is a safe substance, however, crosses the placenta and leads to uncertainty.
There is no evidence that sweeteners will help you lose weight

It is assumed that in making artificial sweeteners, since they have fewer calories than sugar, people will lose some weight. However, there is still shown (which does not mean it will not happen) because there is very little scientific research substantiating the trend. There are even some studies that seem to show that rather than lose weight, gain weight.

Sweeteners are a good choice – explain it because I find it interesting, but leave the subject of the blog – for people with diabetes, as they can consume and sweet foods without suffering the consequences of sugar.

In healthy people is recommended, for now, opt for sugar consumption, more natural than artificial sweeteners (and that sugar is not it a healthy food too.)
Adverse effects of artificial sweeteners

A low dose artificial sweeteners do not seem to be harmful. However, when limits are exceeded desirable (and apparently a normal daily intake can be exceeded) may cause diarrhea and are contraindicated in people suffering from allergies, asthma, in children under three years, since his digestive system and kidney not ready to receive sweeteners, the elderly and patients with a suppressed immune system.
